The tournament, which will be an annual event, was a massive success with supporters coming from as far as Tembisa, Soweto and Rustenburg.

It pitted ladies’ teams only in netball and soccer.

But it ballooned to a 5-a-side and session on aerobics on the tennis courts for those who envied and wanted to be part of the celebrations.

In the soccer field, Lorna Fast XI were the victorious side beating Masakeng Highlanders 3-0 in the final.

This is following a knockout session that started in the morning from 10am, with six teams participating after TUT Ga-Rankuwa Campus pulled out “due to students’ preparations for exams”, or so were the organisers told.

Lorna Fast XI took home a full set of soccer kit and a floating trophy while runners up received medals, as well as T-Shirts and soccer ball.

The Sports Council, headed by ntate Dupi, as well the Ga-Rankuwa Local Football Associaton (Galfa), led by president Frans Phalane, gave the organisation of the competition higher marks.

In the netball courts, there were three categories, with about six teams participating in different categories – U-19, U-15 and U-13.

All clubs went home happy with organisers giving each team a netball ball.

Highlanders won the U-13 14-0 against G Jaguars, while the G Jaguars in the U-15 category fought tooth and nail to win it 22-4 against the same Highlanders.

In the U-19, Titans romped home victorious 11-8 against Highlands.

Highlanders won themselves a full set of netball bibs and gold medals while G Jaguars took home a full set of netball kit and Titans are proud with a floating Trophy.

Tournament organiser, Mathews Mpete of Zone 1, said he was happy to have brought back a smile in the faces of all the participants.

“It gives me great joy that our ladies spent the day together in sport. It was not easy, but through the help of all organising committee,
