Arguably one of the most decorated netball players in Pretoria, Lerato Hlongwane is a force to be reckoned. Playing position Goal attacker (GA) known as a shooter in netball, Hlongwane has been a sensation to watch.

In her 14 years of netball career, the young goal attacker has a total of 86 winners medals and three awards for the best shooter.

Speaking to Tshwane Bulletin and Capital Sport Hlongwane revealed that the support of her family helped her through difficult times.

“It wasn’t easy because I used to have negative friends who didn’t believe in me but my mom was always my number one believer.

“My brother Loui used to say the way I am traveling with netball he sees my first car coming from netball money”.

The 21 year old further revealed that she had always believed in her talent and was proud of her progress. In December 2021 she was one of 15 players selected to represent Gauteng in Cape Town.

“It wasn’t easy because I used to have negative friends who didn’t believe in me but my mom was always my number one believer.

Hlongwane embraced the honour of competing against top teams across the country during the tour in Cape Town.

“It was great to compete with other provinces because I wanted to make my mom very proud and did not even have the fear of competing with big giants”.

Earlier in the year Euphoria Angels netball club approached Lerato Hlongwane to strengthen their team with her experience.

“I joined Euphoria this year, I was playing for Butterfly and when I got back to the training they were like I should teach them my skills and new things I have learned from my experience and it’s something I like because I love teaching others with knowledge of what I am good at”.
