“SAFA is failing local coaches”, This is how World 11 FC coach Sello Kgosana summarised the state of development of local coaches. In recent years we have seen the rise of local players to top professional teams but the same can’t be said about local coaches. There is a lot of focus on the development of players not realising that players need coaches to develop.
SAFA and local football associations have been heavily criticised for the lack of investment in local coaches. Not enough opportunities and recognition is given to local coaches.
In an interview with Capital Sport Sello Kgosana expressed his disappointment and frustration with the lack of support for local coaches. Currently coach and head of development at World11FC Kgosana revealed that local coaches are not credited enough for their hard work.
“To be honest local coaches are not given enough recognition, there are a lot of good coaches mo Kasi but there is no support whatsoever”. SAFA Tshwane has been slammed by locals for not putting extra investment into the development of local coaches. Kgosana marks the lack of early development as a major
contribution to the late maturity of coaches. “SAFA is not doing enough that’s why we have late bloomers because we don’t put the effort in developing coaches while they are still young. ” Many local coaches work with limited resources which is a challenge”. He further revealed that the coaches’ workshop held by SAFA is not making much difference to local football with no sponsors for local coaches to attend the workshops. Despite the challenges, Kgosana encourages local coaches to keep up with the good work and calls on intervention from SAFA.
