Hammanskraal-based local team Hamitown Royals FC Under 19 were crowned champions of the first Delivery Ka Speed Football tournament at the Temba stadium. The team from the local area defeated Happy Boys FC 2-0 to claim bragging rights. Goals from Phillimon Masoma and Macman Mpiyabo sealed the victory.
Head coach King Bash Mabusela was happy after the match applauding the team for its performance throughout the tournament.
The win adds to the 30-year-old coach’s already decorated silverware cabinet as he has now succeeded both in the boys’ and ladies’ teams. Commenting on the team’s performance Mabusela had this to say.
“The game against Happy Boys FC was very interesting but my boys were up for business as we were not playing for three points but for big prices. I’m very happy for the boys as they’ve shown respect for their opponents. Moving forward many teams will cry “Mark my words “.
Losing out on the ladies’ silverware, Mabusela revealed that the under-19 boys’ team win doesn’t take away how proud he is of the ladies’ team who crashed out 4-3 on penalties to Tigers FC. Despite the disappointment, Mabusela expressed his delight in the success of the under-19 boys team. He appreciated their desire to maintain the team’s winning culture.
“Unfortunately luck was not on our side as we failed to convert all 21 chances that we got but it’s football and we understand that it’s unpredictable. Our boys U/19 made corrections by winning the DKS Tournament.
Seeing all the teams that wanted to be champions eliminated made me very happy. We knew the tournament would be tough. However, my boys also knew that we were not playing for 3 points but for a big price. Another trophy in the cabinet is a lifetime achievement and a testament to our DNA of winning tournaments.”
Tournament host Delivery Ka Speed thanked everyone involved in making the tournament as successful as it was. He assured the Hammanskraal community alongside HALFA that another major tournament was on the cards.
Hamitown Royals Attacker Kgothatso Phillimon Masoma walked away with the player of the tournament scoring 8 goals in three games.
