The biggest and most exciting annual event in Soshanguve the Sosha Color Run took centre stage this past Saturday at Phillip Stadium Soshanguve Block L with hundreds of people across Pretoria coming out to enjoy a colourful day with friends and family. Over 500 hundred participants lined up at the starting point at 8:00 a.m. to challenge the 5KM run.
The run went well with no injuries or any accidental issues reported, with loud cheers from members of the community of Block L pushing the participants throughout the 5KM run. The run had three categories, and there were prizes to be won for the top three finishers in each category. Also, participants who crossed the finish line received medals and goodies from different organizations at the finish point. Participants were also treated to some aerobic activities as well as some music and entertainment.
On its 4th Annual year of running, the founder and organiser of the Sosha Color Run Matalane Manaka marked the 2023 run as the best edition, exceeding expectations. Starting the run with only 15 participants in 2017, Manaka opened on the emotional journey of the run to now being one of the biggest events in Soshanguve’s calendar year.
“ A lot of people would have given up after just having only 15 participants, but because I had a vision that in the next 5 to 10 years I want Sosha Color Run to be up there amongst the best events, so I did a lot of research and consultation to end up hosting so many people this year “.
While emphasising the importance of attracting sponsors to events of this magnitude, Manaka lauds all stakeholders that laid a hand in the making of the event. He further revealed that without sponsorship, the run was as good as dead.
“ In any organisation or event without stakeholders, nothing will go well, I would like to take this moment to thank VUMA, BOTSHILU PRIVATE HOSPITAL, CLICKS, CONNEKT MEDIA, SPUR , HOLLYWOOD BETS, DIAMOND PANELBEATERS, EHLERS and QWILI for their positive impact towards the event “.
