In memory of the late Henry Austin, the Pretoria Cycling and Racing Club held the Henry Austin Memorial Ride in Braam Pretorious Annelin. A memorial ride was held to honour the life of the late Henry Austin, who was a favorite of many in the club. A great deal of pride was taken in the service that Henry Austin gave to the club, and he won the hearts of many.
Secretary of the club Santie Van Der Merwe who shared a lot of fond experiences with Henry Austin revealed that Austin was a big figure in the club and his impact was immense. Austin’s work ethic and passion for the club won the hearts of many which were left heartbroken when the news of his passing was announced.
“Henry Austin was a hero. One of God’s greatest creations. Whenever, wherever Henry went, he took love, life, and laughter with him. He was one of PCRC’s (Pretoria Cycling and Racing Club ‘S) members. Always helped with all our races. Nothing could stand in Henry’s way if there was help needed”.
Austin was a leading marshal on several of the club’s rides. Van Der Merwe spoke on Austin’s great impact on the club and how he always wanted to see everyone triumph. Van Der Merwe went on to say that Austin’s abilities were extremely beneficial to the team, citing his ability to remain calm in the face of adversity as one of his strongest attributes.

“Whenever everybody was still panicking, Henry brought calmness to every situation. I never missed greeting anybody. Henry was certainly a big figure in our lives, setting an example for many to follow forever. We are truly going to miss him at our next event on the 2nd of March at Rooiwal Cycling Challenge”.
Members of the PCRC and people outside came in numbers to enjoy a beautiful ride for a good course. Citi protection was also present at the ride to ensure safety on the road during the ride. The Austin family thanked PCRC and everyone who showed up in support of the ride.
