Cycling Against Substance Abuse Club as part of their efforts to promote cycling in the Ga-Rankuwa community. Morakane Mosupyoe, the MEC for Sports, Arts, and Culture in Gauteng, personally presented the bicycles at the Sports and Culture offices in Tshwane.
Victor Phiri, who started the Ga-Rankuwa Cycling Against Substance Abuse Club, is very happy about getting the nice bikes. He said it’s been the club’s dream to get help from the department.
“It was great after we struggled a lot with bikes. It’s nice to see the department and MEC helping a sport that’s still pretty new in our black community. This will give new cyclists a chance,” Phiri said.

The kids were excited about the bikes and said thank you to the department. Phiri said the bikes given by the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture are top-notch and will help the club compete better.
“This donation is a big deal because the department gave the club really good bikes that will help our riders do well in races. The kids are happy to have bikes they usually see pros using,” Phiri said.
The club is looking forward to its two big events in October: the KASI2KASI Challenge and the Shoe A Child Project.
