Eesterust Rams FC were crowned 2023/2024 SAFA Tshwane Hollywood Bets Men’s Regional champions following a 3-2 aggregate win over Tshwane South College. The MRL Stream B winners went into the second leg with a 2-1 lead from the first leg, needing a draw or win to secure the championship. A goal from Edka Mogwera secured a 1-1 draw to seal the title and secure a place in the playoffs.
Striker Muziwethu Shabangu expressed his excitement on winning his first major league title with the club marking it as a remarkable experience. The 19-year-old striker has been one of the team’s forces this season en route to the league title. In a team full of experience and quality, Shabangu praised the impact of the senior players in the development of young players in the team.
“As one of the young players. I can say that the role played by the senior players was very important because they were able to make sure that we as young players know what to do when we face difficulties, especially in the field of play. They always made us believe that we can do this as a team”.
Having secured Stream B 1st position with the best defensive record, Shabungu reveals that the team was not fazed by Tshwane South College‘s attacking prowess. Eesterust Rams conceded only two goals over the two legs and managed to outscore TSC. The 19-year-old states that the team was oozing with confidence heading to the encounter.
“ We as a team knew how good TSC was but we didn’t keep that in mind because we believed that we could do this and we kept on fighting till we heard the last whistle of the game. And that made us get over the edge”.
Eesterust Rams will now turn focus to the provincial playoffs next month to secure a spot in the ABC Motsepe League.
