Over the past few years, Local football especially at the grassroots level has faced an increase in coaches without SAFA or CAF qualifications. CAF Qualification holder and SAFA Instructor Coach Timothy Moshime raised his concern over the challenge pleading for serious intervention from stakeholders and local LFAs.
Moshime, a former Orlando Pirates youth coach and Ajax scout, wishes for more coaches’ workshops for local coaches. With the help of local LFAs and team owners, the CAF Qualification holder believes that the rate of unqualified coaches will decrease and rapid development will occur.
LISTEN TO FULL INTERVIEW | CAF qualification holder and SAFA instructor Coach Timothy Moshime has raised concerns over this challenge, pleading for serious intervention from stakeholders and local LFAs.
“The problem lies with the LFAs as they need to raise funds to at least subsidise some of the courses for the coaches. Our local LFAs don’t have coaches’ workshops where they can give information about courses as you can tell most coaches are still in the dark about coaching courses”.
Earlier this year Giant Stadium hosted the CAF D Licence Worksop and it was found that only two coaches from Soshanguve attended the course with coaches from different provinces dominating in terms of attendance. The stat raised many eyebrows and disappointment in the development of Tshwane Regional football.
“If we continue letting coaches coach kids without licences our development especially grassroots is largely going to be affected. It’s like driving a car without a licence so like I said our Local LFAs need to rise to the matter”.
Having attended and obtained the SAFA instructor workshop, Moshime now looks to obtain the CAF Instructor qualification set to be hosted next month.
